62nd E.C.I. of the North
Club Português de Canicultura
Porto - PORTUGAL
19/01/2002

It happened last weekend in Exponor, Matosinhos, another Agility Double Journey. The Saturday trial was valid for National Championship while Sunday’s trial, for Taça de Portugal (Portugal Cup).

For the national championship trial, there were with 60 enrollments divided in the different categories. The judge was Esteban Diaz, from Spain, who had as assistant his nice wife.

The first trial of the day was degreee 1 – Standard. Within seventeen enrollments, just one got a clean run: Rui Castro and Shallow (Podengo Português), in its third official trial. Rui was very well and Shallow  "collaborated" with him, guaranteeing thus the first place. Olímpia Ferreira with Ema, a Golden Retriever, and Joana Neto with James, a Labrador retriver, reached podium’s immediate places, guaranteeing thus the three first places for C.I.C. Norte.

Pedro Alexandre, from Amigos do Alão, reached 4th place with border collie Nyli and Rui Monteiro, with tervueren China, from team Educacão, got 5th place. Highlights to Rui Castro and his podengo, to Pedro and Rui. The first because of their good time in agility, the speed of Border Nyli and China's presence (Rui Monteiro should have let her work less tighter). Mention also to Olimpia Ferreira and golden retriever Ema, for their passage to degree 2 and for having introduced a lot of good dogs in degree1, what indicates very good future trials.

In this degree, I can't forget also Luis Narciso and the tervueren Caju which, when in tune, are going to become a serious case.

The degree 1 podium receiving the greetings of Carla Molinari, President of C.P.C.

Then followed Midi degree 1, where just was enrolled Susana Rodrigues with Herói, a Sttarfordshire, representing C.I.C. Norte. It was their first trial and there was much expectation concerning their performance. Although nervousness (of Susana), they behaved very well and finished trial with a Very Good classification. One more podium for C.I.C. Norte, very well in degree1, showing that the work that is being developed in the club starts to blossom.

Degree 2 - Another music...

Starting by MIDI, realizing that this category needs new competitors. (we are on need of new competitors for this category.) Just attended Ana Oliveira with poodle Pufy representing Caniclube, Orlando Pereira with poodle Ricky representing C.I.C. Norte (as its usual handler, Maria José, could not compete and whom the best wishes of recovering) and Vasco Ribeiro with cocker Taag from Educacão and as the ones who enrolled but didn’t attended were not more than 4 or five, it clearly demonstrates a not very high competitive interest on it. It is urgent that new Midi or minis with value show up. The fight for the 1st place was once again between Ana Oliveira ( Pufy) and Orlando Pereira ( Ricky ), having Ana Oliveira won in the set of the two trials, Agility and Jumping, with Orlando Pereira in 2nd and Vasco Ribeiro in the 3rd place.

In the standard category, in agility trial, just four competitors got clean run (Luís Faro/Rasta – Amigos do (Acho que não faz sentido traduzir o nome do clube) Alão, Isabel Godinho/Spokz – Educacão, Pedro Castro/Mike – Caniclube and Paulo Sousa/Addi – Educacão).

However and even to the 16th place, the differences were minimum and let everything possible in jumping trial. Highlights for besides the four mentioned and as usual (,) on the top, Paulo Sousa, Pedro Rocha and Sofia Nolasco, Jorge Pires with Cão Fila (era bom traduzir, mas eu não sei com é Fila em inglês...) de São Miguel Kendo and also João Sá (V’Storm) and Magda Estevão with Ushas , that with very fast dogs in jumping, didn't let anything to owe to the clean agility run group in final classification.

Jumping – Here a little comment on judge Esteban Diaz. The course was pretty, the length (140 m) wasn't bad, but the speed of 3.7m/s seemed to be wrongly chosen, what came to happen as 17 competitors in the time and with 0 points of time penalties. Note that average speed of the 10 fastest dogs was about 4.84m/s.

Thus, there were not much changes, the two first places were kept by the ones who got them in agility trial, just switching third and fourth places between Pedro Castro (Mike) and Paulo Sousa with Addi after these competitors having performed an excellent jumping trial, as his direct opponent didn’t.

Standard General classification degree 2

1st -Luis Faro – Rasta – Amigos do Alão

2nd -Isabel Godinho – Spokz – Educacão

3rd - Paulo Sousa – Addi – Educacão

4th - Pedro Castro – Mike – Caniclube

5th - Paulo Sousa – Ain – Educacão

Besides them, other nice performs were made by João Sá with his two dogs, by Celso Alves and his wife, João Ferro and Border Flash (it’s a shame some sand made them fail).

Final note - Christmas holidays were bad for the competitors, who came back to trial in worse shape than they finished last year. Hope this is temporary.

In the same place, but on Sunday, it happened Taça de Portugal (Agility's party), a trial for teams.

Contestants (Teams):

Educacão A

Educacão B

Caniclube A

Caniclube B

Cãogurus A

Cãogurus B

Amigos do Alão

C. Agility da Malveira

Cani-Utile

C.I.C. Norte

Total of inscribed contestants: 37

As the Cup name indicates, it is a party and confraternization between all.

It was a pretty well disputed trial, with the competitors in their majority opting by put the dogs to fly, resulting in some accidents in the middle of the course. It was undoubtedly a nice way to close an agilityst weekend with a golden key.

Classification:

1st  Educacão A –  (Luis Sousa, Miguel Brás , Ana Faria and Paulo Sousa - Addi)

2nd Caniclube A -  (Filipe Vilhena and Manuel Moreira each one with two dogs)

3rd Educacão B - (Paulo Sousa - Breda, Carlos Soares, Isabel Godinho and Sofia Nolasco)

Highlight for Educacão's third consecutive victory in Taça de Portugal.

We liked also to see Pedro Alexandre Rocha with Border Nyli, from Amigos do Alão (we are going to wait for the next trials).

Agility Commission meeting with the clubs.

Between trials, it happened a meeting with agility commission and the clubs to define some aspects of next Portuguese Championship and the participation of our team in next World Championship.

Positive highlight: The meeting was opened to all interested agilitists and a report of what was discussed.

Negative highlight: There was not a previous agenda.

Important note: the nomination of Mr. Luís Narciso for national selectioner

Final note - Apologize for the few photos but as it is possible to see, their quality wasn't the best.

Until next trial.  Good  training ....................................................
